Samuel Edet Patrick is a 400level student of Medical Laboratory Science University of Calabar, He's also the President, and founder of Psalm's and Peace Ambassadors(PAPA). He spoke to Isaac Mensah(Reporter, The Nation Newspaper) about his group's vision.

What's your organisation all about?

Psalm's and Peace Ambassadors (PAPA) is a non-governmental organization that places much premium on security of lives and property. We're an organisation established since 2004 that advocates for peace through music, drama, seminars etc. . Our membership falls into the age range of 18-35, because we believe that this catchment of people still have active strength to work.

What inspired your founding this organization?

It was because of the Violence rearing its head now and then often orchestrated by youths. We were worried about this messy situation hence we had to establish this organization to proclaim the gospel of peace among the youths.

How does your group create Awareness?

Actually, during Memorial Dates such as Valentine's days, World Peace Days, world music day etc. we organize forums for youth and teach them ways and means of maintaining peace.
Also we host seminars with seasoned speakers to create awareness and sensitize the youths on the need for peaceful co-existence.

How do you to Reconcile your academic work-load with that of your organisation?

Well, its not easy at all but with God everything is possible. However the nature of a great man is that he doesn't go to sleep when others are sleeping. I try to prioritize my activities and delegate works as appropriate to my members if am occupied academically. Nevertheless, there's time for everything.

What are some of the challenges your organisation is facing?

Over the years our major challenge has remained finance. This is so because every organization requires finances for its smooth running, more especially we a new breed. We need more sponsors of our programmes.

What are the remarkable achievements of your organization so far?

So far, we've being able to successfully organized several forums for youths on the need for peaceful co-existence in our country.
Our branches have extended to campuses and some communities in Akwa Ibom state. We've published about different five(5) editions of our yearly magazine. Our numerical strength keep growing everyday. And we're hopeful that in due course more people will see the need to join forces with us.

What is your advice to Nigerians?

My advice is that lets shun violence and let unity in diversity reign supreme among us. If only we think alike no matter our differences in tribe and religion we can build a better Nigeria.
